Three Blind Mice rhyme/poem

Three blind mice, three blind mice,See how they run, see how they run,They all ran after the farmer's wife,Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,Did you ever see such a thing in your life,As three blind mice?

2 writers who have been credited to have written Three Blind Mice

A version of this rhyme was published in Deuteromelia or The Seconde part of Musicks melodie (1690). The editor of the book, and possible author of the rhyme, was Thomas Ravenscroft. He was a teenager at the time (1690). The original lyrics:

Three Blinde Mice,
three Blinde Mice,
Dame lulian,
Dame lulian,
The Miller and his merry olde Wife,
shee scrapte her tripe licke thou the knife.

That this ancient rhyme has survived into the present day has been credited to James O. Halliwell. The modern words are:

Three blind mice. Three blind mice.
See how they run. See how they run.
They all ran after the farmer's wife,
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,
Did you ever see such a sight in your life,
As three blind mice?
